Visiting Scholars Programme 2008–2009*

* Visiting Scholars Programme for 2010 is fully booked.

The Bank of Finland's Monetary Policy and Research department invites applications for research positions in our Visiting Scholars programme. The programme is designed to enhance the Bank's research excellence in two key areas: modelling monetary policy and the future of financial markets.

Research projects are conducted at the Monetary Policy and Research department. Visiting researchers have access to the department's data and computer resources and to research assistance. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree, or have proven experience in carrying out economic research in the above fields. Visiting researchers are expected to participate actively in the research unit's workshops and the unit's research activities in general. The projects undertaken will appear in the Bank's Discussion Paper series. Submission of papers to high-level academic journals is strongly encouraged.

As regards modelling monetary policy, we are particularly keen on research into the further development of dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models to incorporate financial market imperfections and alternative expectations formation mechanisms. Topical issues in optimal monetary policy design will be also considered.

The research programme on the future of financial markets invites research on the effects technological developments, financial market innovations and global integration of financial markets have on the structure, operational efficiency and stability of financial markets, central bank policy and, ultimately, the ability of financial markets to support economic growth.

Application:

Qualified candidates should submit a detailed CV together with a copy of a recent research paper, and a summary of the suggested research project in English. The research proposal should include the preferred timing of the visit and the requested salary. Applicants who have recently completed their doctorate are encouraged to submit two or more letters of reference evaluating their qualification.

Applications should be sent directly to the Bank's research unit. Selected candidates may be given an opportunity to hold a seminar at the Bank as a part of their interview.
