International cooperation

Involvement in many forms of international cooperation is an essential aspect of the Bank of Finland's activities whose significance continues to mount.

The most notable form of international cooperation is the Bank's membership of the European System of central Banks and the Eurosystem. More details on these can be found in the sections dealing with both the Bank itself as well as the section on the Eurosystem. This section deals more specifically with other forms of international cooperation.

The Bank of Finland actively participates in EU matters through, for example, the Economic and Financial Committee and the Economic Policy Committee, both subordinate to the European Council.

The Bank of Finland is also responsible for Finland's membership in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has paid the foreign reserve subscription that forms Finland's quota in the IMF. In addition to this the Bank of Finland participates as a shareholder in the operations of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development OECD also provides an essential forum to the Bank concerning issues related to macroeconomics, structural and financial markets.

Similarly, the Bank of Finland maintains regular and varied relations with many central banks and key international financial monetary institutes.
