Parliamentary Supervisory Council to visit Brazil, Chile and Cuba

The Parliamentary Supervisory Council will make a visit to Brazil, Chile and Cuba on 15–24 January 2010. The Council will meet with the Governors of central banks and representatives of Ministries in these countries as well as get acquainted with the activities of their respective banking supervisory authorities.

Topics of the meetings include eg the central banks’ views on the impact of the financial crisis on the countries’ economies and on the tasks of the central banks in rapid growth conditions. Particular emphasis is put on monetary and currency policy as well as the position of central banks and banking supervisors. Further topics are the importance of central government finances for economic growth and the stability of the various banking systems.

The trip will be headed by Timo Kalli, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Supervisory Council. The Bank of Finland will be represented by Governor Erkki Liikanen and Seppo Honkapohja, Member of the Bank of Finland Board.
