The Bank of Finland has the sole right to issue banknotes and coins in Finland. As an integral part of the Eurosystem, it is responsible for the nationwide cash distribution throughout the country. The Bank of Finland is also assigned the task of ensuring the authenticity and quality of cash, through the withdrawal of counterfeit and damaged or mutilated notes from circulation.
The Bank of Finland cooperates with banks and other parties responsible for the currency supply. The aim is to have in place a system that provides a safe and financially efficient framework for currency supply and meets Eurosystem objectives. Tasks in connection with the currency supply are undertaken by the Bank's regional branch offices in Vantaa, Tampere, Kuopio and Oulu.
The Bank of Finland provides banks with banknotes and coins on a wholesale basis. The Bank of Finland does not sell coins, banknotes or specimen notes for numismatic or other similar purposes. We recommend that customers contact professional coin dealers for numismatic products.
