Visiting Researchers Programme

The Bank of Finland Institute for Economies in Transition (BOFIT) conducts high-level research on transition economics and monitors economic developments in Russia and China. Research focuses on (but is not limited to) issues related to macroeconomic performance and financial markets in transition economies. BOFIT publishes a discussion paper series and also a more policy-oriented BOFIT Online series. In addition, BOFIT Weekly follows economic developments in Russia and China.

BOFIT welcomes applications for posts in its Visiting Researchers Programme. Scholarships for 3–12 months are available for high-level research projects in areas pertinent to the Institute's research objectives. However, senior scholars seeking shorter research visits will also be considered. Scholars focusing on the Russian or Chinese economy are particularly encouraged to apply. The application period for the Visiting Researchers' Programme for 2010 has closed. BOFIT will release an announcement regarding the programme for 2011 in the spring of next year.

A visiting scholar will be expected to conduct research based on a mutually agreed research plan. Articles stemming from the research are expected to be included in the BOFIT Discussion Papers series and may be published elsewhere as well. Visiting scholars are expected to deliver at least one lecture in the BOFIT seminar series on their research topic and to interact with other researchers engaged in projects in the same area.

BOFIT offers an active but relaxed research environment, excellent library facilities and support from other research facilities. Remuneration for visiting scholars is commensurate with their research experience.

Persons interested in applying are invited to send:

  • a brief research proposal
  • a CV detailing their academic and research background, with the names of two or three referees
  • a copy of an earlier paper selected by the applicant
